I have huge issues with blogs: I never update them. I’ve been trying to write a blog in various forms for about 6-7 years now and I just don’t ever get around to updating it. Whilst it’s possible that this may happen to this one, these days I feel I have more to say and so wish to write it down. This may interest some, it may not but either way i’m pleased that i’m making an effort with it again. I’m also going to call it my Journal because ‘blog’ can sound a little cheesy.
Site Background
This site runs on WordPress (of course) using the Acute theme from ThemeBeans. Although I design WordPress themes for a living, After a few months of doing so, I found myself shockingly removed from the WordPress theme scene and so wanted to change this by researching and purchasing my own theme. I may try out others on this site but I haven’t decided yet. Regardless, I went for colourful, flat and responsive – just how I like them!
This site will be heavily supplemented by Instagram and Twitter – two services I truly adore. I love taking photos with my iPhone, even if they’re not very good. I find Twitter one of the most useful tools in my life with regards to staying up-to-date with news, the web design industry, friends, family and app updates.
Personal Background
I recently moved from Salisbury to Bath with my girlfriend (Emily) and cat (Fliss). I’ve been designing and building websites for years and love using WordPress for everything. I run a web design agency that operates out of The Guild: Bath’s new co-working space. I cycle there and back everyday. I love cycling – I use a 2013 Charge Filter Hi and i’m in the process of prepping myself and the bike for the impending Winter commutes. I watch vast amounts of British comedy on TV and have a soft spot for a Gin & Tonic at the weekend.
Aims for this Site
- I want to write and I want to get better at it. The Voltronik blog is great for business but a lot of what I have to jot down isn’t business related.
- I want to be able to cover things in more than 140 characters.
- I’d like a good rant every now and again.
- I’d like talk about things that I love and ideas that make me bounce around the room with excitement.
- I’d like this site to point people in the direction of Voltronik and whilst i’ll make an effort to ensure the odd link is present for SEO purposes, it won’t be one giant advert for what I do.
What I’m up to Now
I’m currently searching for the ultimate windproof, waterproof and breathable cycle jacket for Winter around the £150 mark. I’m also looking at water repellant jeans, SPD shoes and pedals and panniers for the Winter commutes to the office. I’m enjoying the new series of Boardwalk Empire and Downton Abbey and am waiting for Sherlock and The Walking Dead to return.
At Voltronik i’m working on a website for a wedding venue, a big mobile gaming website and an educational online music shop.
What’s coming next? I have no idea.
