Managing Certificates on macOS Sequoia in the Hidden Keychain Access App

The release of macOS Sequoia has changed how passwords are managed on macOS. The new Passwords app now includes a 2FA section (Codes), as well as allowing you to manage Passkeys and Wi-Fi Passwords within a nicer, more graphical interface. It is missing something very important though: Certificate management.

I use Local by Flywheel to develop WordPress sites and I use HTTPS from the moment I create a new site. This used to work flawlessly but Apple have tightened this up in recent years and has required self-signed certificates, like the ones added by Local, to be manually trusted in the Keychain app. The problem is, the Passwords app has all but replaced this and certificate management is nowhere to be found within it. Fortunately, the Keychain Access app still exists on macOS Sequoia, it’s just been hidden, and can still be used to manage certificates both old and new.

The Keychain Access app on macOS Sequoia can be found in System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/Keychain Access.app and can be located quickly using Spotlight or search in the Finder.

Once opened, it will ask you about using the Passwords app instead. Choose the option to open Keychain Access where you’ll then be presented with ol’ familiar and certificate management is achievable once again.
